The Universe Often Knows Better Than You What You Really Want

I wanted to go to Duke University for grad school, but I found out that it was unsafe to run in the dark alone as a woman. I used to do that in Montreal (Canada) all the time, enjoying running at 8-9 pm at night. Learning this at the motel the night before my interview at Duke University, I knew I no longer wanted to go there. It would have been too expensive anyway, and as it worked out, I wasn’t ultimately accepted. However, the Universe was guiding me to another university in Rhode Island, where magical things unfolded.
It’s weird how I even applied there as it was a 3-year instead of a 2-year degree Master’s Degree, and I was missing a prerequisite; I had been adamant I was not taking any more courses after a Bachelor’s Degree plus 14 courses in another field. I fell in love with the pamphlet, which had the itinerary of courses through the 3 years. I would love to open it up and stare at it over and over again. There were only ten spots for out-of-state (out of 20 total spaces), and I got in.
There are so many magical things that happened while I lived there:
1) We moved into a new one-floor building (half for us and half for Charitable Organizations) with a parking lot just outside for us.2) It was the least expensive school I applied to in the US.
3) I received an assistantship through the university that paid half my tuition and an hourly wage, which was the only type of job I could get on a student visa as an international student
3) I got the best two roommates, which is a story in itself how that came together.
4) The region was a resort area in the summer (by Narragansett Bay/Atlantic Ocean), so all of the students lived in houses in neighboring towns cheaply as the school year was off-season.
5) Rhode Island is so beautiful, especially in the summer.6) I was lucky to live there for two summers and got into a yearly cheap house rental situation with roommates. Going to the beach was awesome!
This was the Universe guiding me to the right school in the right place!
